“Cancellation” protection for Exchange

Home Exchange Cancellation Protection, provided by HomeLink Canada, is a two-step plan that has been put in place to compensate Canadian members who are affected by the cancellation of an exchange at the last minute (due to illness, personal issues, etc.). If a Canadian member has made financial commitments (airfare, etc.) to vacation at a particular location, and the exchange is cancelled, we will attempt to find a replacement at or near the desired location. Or, they will be required to stay in a commercial accommodation facility (hotel, motel or bed and breakfast).

The premiums are paid into a fund, and only HomeLink Canada members who have paid their annual dues can benefit from them.

The total fund depends on the number of participants and the premiums that were paid during the year. The amount of compensation depends on the number of claims and the amounts claimed. Since a family’s accommodation expenses for a vacation can vary greatly, we must be cautious when we promise compensation of “up to $3,000 .”

To be eligible for compensation, the members named below must:

  • submit the HOMELINK INTERNATIONAL Exchange Agreement Form
    posted online signed by both parties, as soon as the exchange is confirmed;
  • have arranged the exchange with a member in good standing of HomeLink International;
  • Once the member has cancelled, request a written explanation (proof) and submit it to HomeLink Canada.

1. We will try to find a replacement at or near the desired location.
2. If a replacement cannot be found, the member will spend his/her vacation at the intended location, staying in reasonably-priced commercial accommodation centers and sending us a detailed statement of his/her expenses. It is recommended to select ‘reasonable’ accommodation, not luxury level, to allow a ‘reasonable’ portion of reimbursement.
3. We reserve the right to exclude particular hospitality services at our discretion.

Due to the widespread various officially declared pandemic-related travel restrictions and vaccine programs, plus the precarious political conditions, we cannot provide the financial Cancellation Protection in cases where the exchange cancellation is a result of these issues or Acts of war.

As of December 31, we are responding to all claims by dividing the fund, on a proportional basis, among all members who have requested compensation. Therefore, compensation may be full or partial.

Premiums are payable (a) with the annual fee or (b) later, when the member submits the form, once an exchange agreement has been concluded.
